Miami TBI

TBI occurs when a sudden, violent impact affects the brain. During a motor vehicle accident, for example, a passenger can strike the dashboard or come to a violent stop, causing the brain to strike against the inside of the skull. Up to thirty times the weight of the victim may traumatize the brain when this occurs, leading to swelling or bruising of the brain tissue.

While many brain injuries of this type can be detected through an MRI, CT scan, X-ray or EEG, others may occur within deep, hidden recesses of the cranium. In such cases, symptoms may not present until days or weeks later when the victim attempts to undertake complex tasks. At this time, symptoms such as the following may appear:

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Fatigue
  • Reduced memory
  • Headaches
  • Poor judgment
  • Difficulty learning
  • Changes in personality, sometimes violent
  • Sudden organization difficulty
  • Sleep issues

Such TBI symptoms affect more than just the victim. Family members, friends, and coworkers may have difficulty adjusting to the changes in personalities that often accompany TBI.

Rehabilitation and treatment can lead to dramatic improvement in many TBI victims. However, these treatment options can be expensive. If you or a loved one has suffered TBI due to the negligence of another party, you may be entitled to compensation from the negligent party under the terms of the law.
